Singapore Woman’s Fight for Life: Raising $3.2 Million for Rare Heart and Lung Transplant in US

Support Amanda Lim: A Singaporean’s Urgent Fight for Life

A 30-year-old Singaporean woman, Amanda Lim Xuan, is in desperate need of a heart and lung transplant. Diagnosed with a rare heart condition known as Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH), Amanda is seeking help to raise approximately $3.15 million for her surgery in the United States.

A Life-Changing Diagnosis

Amanda’s journey began in 2017 when she learned she had PPH, a condition that affects only 15 people per million. This hereditary disease, passed down from her father, has already claimed the life of her older sister. PPH causes high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, which connects the heart to the lungs. If untreated, it can lead to severe complications, including right heart failure.

After exhausting various treatments, Amanda’s last hope was a medication called Veletri. Unfortunately, it lost its effectiveness and came with troubling side effects. This pushed her to consider a heart and lung transplant as her only option. However, despite her efforts at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Amanda was informed she could not be placed on the transplant waitlist.

The Financial Burden

In her search for alternatives, Amanda discovered a trial drug called Sotatercept, available overseas but not yet in Singapore. In early July, she was given an appointment at the University of California San Diego to assess her eligibility for the transplant. However, the financial implications of this journey are daunting.

She initially planned to take an air ambulance to San Diego, which would cost around $375,000. A more budget-friendly option through Singapore Airlines still requires her to travel in Business Class and reserve three extra seats for her oxygen equipment. The projected medical expenses for the transplant alone are estimated at $3 million, payable upfront. On top of that, Amanda will need Sotatercept injections costing $19,000 every three weeks while she awaits a suitable donor, a process that could take two to three months.

Join the Cause

So far, Amanda’s fundraising campaign has raised over $364,000, with more than $236,000 coming from offline contributions. This is a chance for Singaporeans to rally together and support one of our own in her time of need. By contributing to Amanda Lim Xuan’s campaign, we can help her secure the life-saving transplant she urgently requires.

To foster a deeper emotional connection with potential donors, it would be beneficial to share more about Amanda’s background and her medical journey. Providing clear details on how the funds will be utilized, the expected timeline for her treatment, and regular updates on her progress can help build trust and transparency with donors.
