Personal Struggles with Mosquitoes

Zhang, 29, shared with a Chinese evening daily that mosquitoes have been a constant nuisance. They sneak into her flat through tiny gaps in the doors and windows. The situation became even more alarming when her six-month-old baby was bitten, resulting in swelling on the left side of the child’s face. Zhang hopes that the authorities will step in to help resolve this issue.

Authorities Respond

In response to these concerns, the National Environment Agency (NEA) assured residents that they conduct regular inspections at nearby construction sites to prevent mosquito breeding. The Chua Chu Kang Town Council also mentioned that they carry out mosquito eradication measures every Wednesday and Saturday. Furthermore, they plan to implement additional mosquito prevention strategies near Block 133B and 133C in Tengah Garden Avenue until construction is completed.

Community Concerns About Breeding Grounds

Last December, other residents expressed worries about potential mosquito breeding grounds in the area. Goh, another resident, pointed out that the landscape is still developing and certain areas are not well-maintained, which could attract mosquitoes. She noted that water tends to pool after rain, posing a safety risk, especially for families with young children.

In response to earlier concerns, the NEA stated that a licensed environmental control officer conducts daily inspections to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. They also treat areas prone to waterlogging with anti-mosquito chemicals, such as oil or larvicide.
