After a long wait of three years, the Tampines Viaduct is set to open its doors to motorists this Sunday! If you’re heading towards Changi Prison from the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) or Tampines Expressway (TPE), keep an eye out for the new directional signs guiding you to the rerouted road.
What to Expect with the New Route
The Tampines Viaduct will provide a direct alternative for those traveling from the PIE or TPE towards Tuas and Upper Changi Road East. This means less congestion and a smoother journey for everyone. As you exit the PIE or TPE, you’ll notice clear signs leading you to this new route.
For those who frequent the area, it’s important to note that the public will temporarily relocate to the ‘Water Camping Site’ while construction is ongoing from Monday to Friday. The 8 km long viaduct construction will take place after Exit 2, allowing traffic to flow more efficiently.
Traffic Changes and New Exits
The new Exit 2A on TPE will help redistribute traffic towards PIE East (Tuas) and Upper Changi Road East. Motorists will be able to bypass the busy stretch between Loyang Flyover and Upper Changi Flyover, avoiding the signalised intersection at Upper Changi Road North/East. However, please be aware that some exits will be closed during this period.
– Exit 1 from Upper Changi Road East will remain open.
– Other exits will be closed temporarily.
Residents from Tampines and Pasir Ris can still access the existing at-grade roads leading to Upper Changi Road North and East.

The construction was delayed due to a tragic incident in 2017, which resulted in the loss of one worker’s life and injuries to ten others. As a precaution, residents of Pasir Ris and Changi are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during this time.

These changes will also affect bus routes, with six stops on Loyang Avenue closing and seven buses rerouted to Loyang Way.
