Community Spirit Shines Bright: Volunteers Transform Home for Elderly Cat Lover
Imagine living in a flat filled with 47 cats—sounds overwhelming, right? For Mdm Z, this was her reality in Boon Lay. Recently, a dedicated group of volunteers stepped in to help her reclaim her living space, clearing out clutter and giving her home a much-needed makeover.
From Chaos to Comfort
Last Sunday, July 14, volunteers from Helping Joy, a charity that supports the elderly and those in need, arrived at Mdm Z’s home. The situation had become dire, with a family member hoarding cats, making the flat nearly unlivable. Photos shared on Helping Joy’s Facebook page showed a shocking scene: piles of items cluttering the space and walls stained with mold.
The charity highlighted, “The strong pungent smell had seeped into the walls and cabinets.” Despite Mdm Z’s attempts to clean, her asthma made it difficult to manage the situation. Fortunately, with the assistance of Turnkey Projects, a local contractor, the volunteers worked tirelessly to declutter and clean her home.
Community Involvement
Joining the volunteers was Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, who represents West Coast GRC. In a heartfelt Facebook post, he thanked the volunteers for their dedication and mentioned that the animals had been rescued. This act of kindness showcases the power of community support in Singapore.
