However, he was shocked to find that he only got back $50 for his $500 order. When he tried to respond to their messages, he hit a wall—no replies were coming through.

Grab later explained that the driver had trouble finding the right location and claimed they tried to contact Melvin. But Melvin was puzzled—there was no chat history on his phone! Determined to get to the bottom of this, he reviewed CCTV footage and spoke to security guards, who confirmed that no driver had been there that day.

A Series of Miscommunications

In a bizarre twist, a Grab manager suggested Melvin dispose of the food or leave it at the security post since they couldn’t reach him. Melvin couldn’t believe it. Why would the driver leave the food in such an odd place? He expressed his frustration, noting that if Grab had contacted him earlier, things could have been resolved more efficiently.

On September 1, another Grab representative reached out. They mentioned that the driver was worried about the food being stolen if left at the security post. But Melvin remained unconvinced. “Why would the driver go to the Basement 2 carpark just to throw away the food?” he questioned. Despite reaching out to multiple agents, the issue remained unresolved.

A Wider Issue

AsiaOne reached out to both Melvin and Grab for comments after his post went viral. Sadly, Melvin’s experience isn’t unique. Another delivery driver once tossed an entire order of eclairs into a rubbish bin after finding the recipient wasn’t home. This was meant to be a sweet surprise for a birthday!
